John 17:20-23—Unity’s Effect on Outreach

Lesson 1: ______ __________ is a great witness (John 17:20-23, 13:35; Gal 6:10).

Lesson 2: (Part I) ________________ hurts our witness (Part II) so ______ ________ when needed (1 Cor 6:6-7; Pro 6:16-19; Rom 16:17; Titus 3:10; Phil 4:1-2).

Lesson 3: We should pursue unity ______ ____________ (Phil 4:1; Eph 5:18-21).

Four practical suggestions to help WCC grow in outreach:

  1. Pray for WCC to grow in this area.
  2. Pray for wisdom for the elders to be sensitive to God’s leading.
  3. Pray about who God would have you invite to church.
  4. Find ways for your home fellowship to focus on outreach.

Family Worship Guide

Memory Verse: Galatians 6:10

Day 1: Read John 17:20-23, 13:35, Gal 6:10 and discuss: Why is our unity so important, or in other words: what does our unity communicate to the onlooking world? Why do you think it communicates this? What can you do to help strengthen the unity at WCC? Why are seasons of intense suffering in our body such great witnessing/outreach opportunities?

Day 2: Read 1 Cor 6:6-7, Pro 6:16-19, Rom 16:17, Titus 3:10 and discuss: What are the greatest threats to our unity? To our witness? Why did Paul tell the Corinthians to “suffer loss”? What are the six things God hates? Why such strong verses reserved for divisive people, or in other words, why are divisive people such threats to the church? What exactly do they threaten? How should the church handle them?

Day 3: Read Phil 4:1-2 and Eph 5:18-21: Why is Euodia and Syntychy’s conflict so sobering? What can we learn from them? Why did Paul tell these women to “agree”? How can we prevent the same conflicts in our relationships with others? Ephesians 5:21 commands us to submit to each other. What should motivate us to do so?

Pray for those who lead, feed, and care for the flock, and their families (Col. 4:3, 2 Thess. 3:1): Gary Spague and Tim Zumstein

Pray for “kings” and those in authority (1 Tim. 2:2): Local:  Woodland Police; State: State Rep. Jim Walsh; Nation: Vice President Mike Pence

Pray for the Gospel to Spread Among All Peoples (Matt. 9:37-38):
