1 Corinthians 14:22-25—When Those Outside Come Inside

NOTE: Lessons 1-3 are from previous sermons.

Lesson 1: Let’s use the strong foundation God’s given us to grow in outreach.

Lesson 2: God expects holiness of those “inside” (Num 9:1-11).

Lesson 3: (Part I) Those “outside” don’t come “inside” clean (Part II) but God has grace for them (2 Chr 30:17-20; Luke 12:48).

Lesson 4: God establishes an “____________” and “______________” (Matt 21:31, 25:10; Mark 4:11; Luke 16:16; Col 4:5; 1 Thes 4:12; 1 Tim 3:7; 1 Cor 5:12-13 cf. Lev 24:14; Deut 17:7, 19:19, 22:21, 24, 24:7; 2 Tim 2:21; Jam 4:8; 1 John 1:9)

Lesson 5: Holiness ______________ ______ boundary (1 John 2:15).

Lesson 6: Those “outside” ____________ ________ bold preaching (1 Cor 14:3, 22-25).

Four practical suggestions to help WCC grow in outreach:

  1. Pray for WCC to grow in this area.
  2. Pray for wisdom for the elders to be sensitive to God’s leading.
  3. Pray about who God would have you invite to church.
  4. Find ways for your home fellowship to focus on outreach.

Family Worship Guide

Memory Verse: 1 Corinthians 14:3

Day 1: Read Matt 21:31, 25:10; Mark 4:11; Luke 16:16; Col 4:5; 1 Thes 4:12; 1 Tim 3:7;  2 Tim 2:21; Jam 4:8; 1 John 1:9 and discuss: When do we see an “inside” and “outside” in the Old Testament? What about in the New Testament? Why is it God’s pattern to have an “inside” and “outside”? Can you think of times in Scripture people moved from the “outside” to the “inside”? What about the other way around?

Day 2: Read 1 John 2:15-17, 1 Cor 5:12-13 cf. Lev 24:14; Deut 17:7, 19:19, 22:21, 24, 24:7 and discuss: How is church discipline prefigured in the Old Testament? Last week’s sermon discussed the importance of personal holiness. Why is holiness so important to the church too? How does holiness create a boundary between the “inside” and “outside”?

Day 3: Read 1 Corinthians 14:22-25 and discuss: How should we (and shouldn’t we) think of prophecy? Who is prophecy for? What about tongues? What should unchurched people hear when they come “inside”? Why? What does God’s Word say will happen with “outsiders” when they hear this?
